Julia Zurilla

Julia Zurilla is a Venezuelan artist based in Miami since 2017. Her multidisciplinary
practice blends video, photography, installation, and text to explore memory,
displacement, and the poetics of space. She holds a degree in Fine Arts and a
Master’s in Contemporary Art Studies from IUESAPAR (Instituto Universitario de
Estudios Superiores de Artes Plásticas Armando Reverón) in Caracas, and is
currently part of the Laundromat Art Space residency program in Miami.


Her practice, which began in the late 1990s, explores experimental

contemporary languages through video art, writing, visual storytelling, site-
specific installations, textiles, and interdisciplinary research. Zurilla is known for

transforming written narratives into powerful visual compositions. Her work has
been exhibited internationally at institutions such as the Coral Springs Museum of
Art, the National Art Gallery of Venezuela, the Coral Gables Museum, MAC Lima
(Peru), Théâtre La Colonie (Paris), the Museum of Contemporary Art of Caracas,
CIFO (Miami), the Museum of Fine Arts of Venezuela, and The Americas Society
Art Gallery in New York. She has also participated in art fairs such as PINTA Art
Fair Miami, the Ibero-American Art Fair in Caracas, and the Sziget Festival in
Budapest. In 2024, she was a featured guest artist at the WOPHA Congress,
presented by WOPHA and the Pérez Art Museum Miami.


Her recent recognitions include The Ellies Cinematic Award from Oolite Arts
(2025), the Miami Beach No Vacancy Public Art Prize (2024), the Miami Individual
Artist Grant (2023 and 2024), the Corral & Cathers Artist Fund Grant (2023), an
honorable mention in CAF’s Creadoras Contemporary Art Competition (2023),
and a fellowship from the Jorge M. Pérez Foundation (2020).
Her work is part of notable collections, including the Fundación Museos
Nacionales and the Galería de Arte Nacional de Venezuela, the Colección
Mercantil, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Mario Abreu, the Ateneo de
Valencia, the ExxonMobil Art Collection, and the Luciano Benetton Collection.
